“JYOTI”

Light & Faith

The Sanskrit word for light is “jyoti.”  People often relate light with faith.  Yet light is most appreciated amidst darkness. Behind an object struck by light waves, there is a place where there is no light.  From here shadows manifest.  Light and darkness coexist.  David Whyte expresses this beautifully in an interview, “The faith is not necessarily the knowledge that yes, the cycles come round.  I’m in the period now of darkness, and the light will come in the morning.  I think actually that faith has to do with learning to love the darkness and learning to love the entrance into whatever aspect of day or night you are actually asked to inhabit and create a companionship with.”

La palabra Sánscrita para luz es “jyoti”.  A menudo las personas relacionan luz con fe.  Sin embargo, desde la oscuridad se aprecia más la luz.  Atrás de un objeto que ha sido golpeado por olas de luz hay un lugar donde no hay luz.  Desde ahí se manifiestan las sombras.  La luz y la oscuridad coexisten.  David Whyte expresa esto hermosamente en una entrevista, “La fe no es necesariamente el conocimiento que si, los ciclos dan vuelta.  Estoy en el período de oscuridad ahora, y la luz vendrá en la mañana.  Yo creo que la fe tiene que ver con aprender a amar la oscuridad y aprender a amar la entrada con cualquier aspecto del día o la noche en el que actualmente se te pide habitar y crear un compañerismo con éste.”
